The Amicale Cyclo Pavillaise located in Pavilly in Seine Maritime is pleased to organize the 2nd edition of the Hannibal Rider, a long distance ride, totaling 2500 km

This certificate in accordance with the LRM (Les Randonneurs Mondiaux) regulations and taking into account the significant difference in altitude must be completed in 350 hours (167 km/day) max.

Starting from Normandy, the route crosses the Jura and Alps massifs to Piedmont (Italy). We take small, bucolic and peaceful roads as much as possible.

A steep drop in altitude and gravel sections in high mountains will require suitable equipment: minimum 32 section tire strongly recommended

Some significant figures:

  • Cumulative altitude difference: 39,200 m
  • Gravel sections: 125 km
  • 50 passes crossed including 15 at over 2000 m
  • For BPF hunters, 22 sites

The Hannibal Rider is not a competition but a personal challenge.

You can discover the route in Openrunner: type the keyword LRM ACP

Departure Date: June 22, 2024 from 7 a.m.

Limited to the number of 100 participants, the registration fee is €50 for FFCT licensees and €60 for non-licensees.

Partial description of the route:

First of all, the route begins in Normandy, more precisely in the Boucles de la Seine regional park. Some beautiful, full-bodied hills before reaching the charming Eure valley. Then comes the upper Chevreuse valley and its magnificent Rambouillet Forest followed by the Essonne valley which will make you discover its secrets. The landscapes of the Morvan from Vézelay to Autun will not tire you but watch out for your legs, the Maconnais and Bas Jura also have some beautiful hills. The serious things begin in Ain, with its famous large, steep Colombier! but to reach it you will have to cross the Ain gorges via the impressive Cize-bolozon viaduct

We can say that La Haute montagne begins in the little Venice of the Alps, the opportunity to take a break on the banks of Lake Annecy before tackling the most difficult 800 km of the route. The passes will follow one another without respite and always higher and higher to reach the highest point of 2764 m for the French part. From the Variselle fort, enjoy the view overlooking the Mont-Cenis lake before going back down to the Italian side. In Susa in Piedmont, treat yourself to an ice cream at Zucchero Di Canna, this will be very necessary to climb the Col de Finestre, the Mont-Ventoux seems easy given the difficulties announced: 18km at 9.3%, half of which is on a stony track! Then comes the old military track called “la strada del Assietta” 35 km of gravel with a beautiful range of passes at more than 2000 m.

At Col le Basset take the track on the right, be careful to check your brakes! The long, steep descent to Oulx leaves no room for the slightest negligence.

Bardonnecchia, starting point towards the Scarfiotti refuge, first tarmac part to Rocha then 13 km of track with a breathtaking landscape, a short break on the terrace of the refuge to admire the waterfall then descent towards Bardonnecchia via Rochemolles On returns to France via the Col de l'Échelle to reach the charming Clarée valley. In Mizoën, head towards the Emparis plateau, a very rolling track, magnificent and wild landscape. A short break is necessary in Besse: a small restored mountain village. the Col de Sarenne with a very wild finale. Crossing the mule pass called “Cluy” to reach Bourg-Oisans. Impressive slope of the Col de Solude with its last kilometer on gravel. Le Paquetout, short but terrible! To finish with the sequence of passes you will have to have crossed the Dévoluy and the Vercors…

More than 800 km or there are still a few passes to encounter in Adrche and Haute-Loire... and beautiful hills in Bourbonnais, more peaceful the Loire is these canal bridges with some Sancerre hills to enhance the landscape. Sologne and its small picturesque villages without difficulty. Between Beauce and Perche to reach the Seine valley then Pavilly, arrival point at km.
